Sustainable Futures Scholarship

September 7, 2023

Guåhan Sustainable Culture (GSC) is proud to award our third year Sustainable Futures Scholarship of $1,000 to one of our dedicated interns, Lolita Blaz.

Lolita is a 2023 graduate from Academy of Our Lady of Guam and has been an intern with our Li’l Sprouts Academy program since our very first summer in 2022. She has continued to work with us with our after-school program as well as our most recent Li’l Sprouts Summer Camp this year. Every year, Lolita brings a fresh personality to our camp and creates close connections with our students. It was never a dull moment in the classroom with her.

Lolita has now spread her wings and is attending University of the Pacific and plans to major in Biological Sciences. When asked what her plans for school were and her experience working with the GSC’s  Li’l Sprouts Academy this is what she had to say:

“I plan to pursue a career in medicine and continue to serve my community wherever I may be. Working with GSC was great because I was able to complete service hours and learn a lot about food security, sustainability, and agriculture along the way. It also made me happy to see that I left a positive impact on some of the kids part of the LSA program at PC Lujan and the LSA summer camps. I also built many relationships and core memories with some of the staff, volunteers, and kids. One of my favorite memories would be building garden beds with the kids and seeing their seedlings flourish by the end of the camp.”

GSC appreciates the dedication she’s shown towards our LSA program. We wish Lolita the best in her next endeavor and have enjoyed the time spent with her.
