Guåhan Sustainable Culture awarded $250,000 grant from Kataly Foundation

Recently, the Kataly Foundation awarded GSC with a multi-year general operating support grant totaling $250,000 to support its mission in developing a sustainable future for the beautiful island of Guåhan.  GSC will receive the funds in annual installments of $50,000 over the next five years. In 2020, GSC also received a rapid response grant of $45,000 from the Foundation.

The Kataly Foundation is working toward a world in which people of color have the resources, power, and agency to execute their own visions for justice, well-being, and shared prosperity within their communities.

The Environmental Justice Resourcing Collective (EJRC) at the Kataly Foundation has redistributed $31.75 million to 78 BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) -led organizations across the country, over a span of five years. The EJRC supports work that builds power in communities of color, as they’ve observed results of under-resourced environmental justice work led by Black and Indigenous communities like ours, and all people of color.

GSC Co-founder and President Michelle Crisostomo expressed her appreciation for the much needed funding. “The leaders of Kataly understand the importance of our work and have listened to our needs as an organization. We are grateful for the Foundation’s generosity and recognition of GSC.  We look forward to using the grant to continue fulfilling our mission of greater food security and food sovereignty for Guåhan and will direct the funding to where it is needed most in the work that we perform for our community,” she said.
