Educate. Cultivate. Nourish
GSC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been carrying out its mission of cultivating ideas and strategies of environmental sustainability within our local community since our founding, two years ago. The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for our community and economy in 2020, but GSC found ways to help both farmers and families in need. In April, we launched the Supporting Farmers, Sustaining Families (SF2) initiative and Farm Fresh Produce (FFP) program. SF2 raised enough money to purchase and give away nearly ten thousand pounds (10,000) of produce, as well as eight hundred (800) seedlings, from local farmers to feed and support more than 800 families, at no-cost, throughout the island. The FFP program has been a successful effort supported by nearly five hundred (500) families who have purchased more than twenty thousand (20,000) pounds of local produce.
AmeriCorps Guåhan Sustainable Culture
In 2021, we are proud to have been selected to be a part of the AmeriCorps Program, a network of national service programs to improve lives and promote civic engagement. As a participant, AmeriCorpsGSC will create a community garden project and organize a sustainable culture workshop series. We will be responsible for recruiting forty four (44) AmeriCorps members to provide services to promote healthy lifestyles and increase food security, environmental awareness, and stewardship.
GSC’s fundraising goal is fifty-thousand dollars ($50,000) to support our Americorps GSC programs with materials and equipment for our community gardens, a vehicle to transport equipment, training supplies for workshops, and other operating expenses and equipment to help the program succeed.
We are excited to grow and expand our organization in 2021 and we hope your company can support us and the additional work we will be undertaking.
