Li'l Sprouts Academy After-School Adventures

April 23, 2024

Exciting news! Our Li’l Sprouts Academy After School Program launched at Ordot-Chalan Pago Elementary School this month. This 4-week initiative empowers children to embrace healthy habits through hands-on learning experiences.

Each week, participating children receive a produce bag with fresh ingredients along with a recipe, inspiring them to explore cooking nutritious dishes and making healthier choices. They also enjoy special guest speakers from UOG, who talked to the students about hygienic food practices. This program is part of the Children’s Healthy Living Food Systems Extension and Outreach (CHL FSEO) Pilot Projects, aimed at improving the food system to support the health of children in the Pacific and fostering community engagement and empowerment.

Our Li’l Sprouts aren’t just learning about healthy eating – they’re actively learning how to grow their own food. They’ve assembled their own school garden and are currently growing hot peppers and tomatoes. Plus, they’re experimenting with bean germination, with some exciting results already!

To personalize their gardening experience, students got creative and decorated recycled cups for their seedlings and even created bean art.

We can’t wait to see what else the Li’l Sprouts can accomplish in their school garden. Let’s continue nurturing their curiosity and empowering them to make positive choices for a brighter, healthier future!
